Design 1: Permaculture. Care for what you love in your own backyard.
“The image was drawn in response to the joy my family shared as we transformed our backyard into a wonderful permaculture paradise filled with native plants, a kitchen garden, happy chickens, organic home-made compost, fruit and vegies and all of the insects that came to share and fertilise (and sometimes steal!) our produce. We learned to flow with the rhythms and cycles of nature and discovered how much we as humans are part of that cycle. I wanted to share our journey and encourage other families to join us in this celebration of nature, permaculture, the joys of harvesting your own produce, reducing waste, and the gentle home-grown family activism of caring for the earth one small urban backyard at a time. Because you care for what you love.” Statement from Artist #1
Design 2 – Express your Chicken-ness: Permi-ate or Perish
“Chickens are such permaculture creatures: they produce no waste that isn’t also a resources, they give us various yields (including entertainment), they are a small scale intensive animal and they integrate so well into our lives. Not only that but they are all individuals and yet they make the most of their chicken community. We can learn a lot from chickens. This painting is a family portrait. Celebrating the unique personalities of three siblings with their poultry alter ego.” Statement from Artist #2
Design 3 – Earth Care, People Care & Fair Share. Permaculture joins the dots
“My call to action for the positive contribution that permaculture can make is to remind ourselves that all the decisions we make are connected, and those made with the Permaculture principles foremost are the best decisions we can make. Permaculture epitomises joined up thinking.” Statement from Artist #3
Design 4 – Permaculture. Compost problems, grow solutions
“Permaculture is the solution for troubled times – inspiring, uplifting, empowering, it carries us toward a better future.” Statement from Artist #4
Design 5 – People, Planet, Permaculture
“This is a play on the 60s peace symbol with a smiling twist. A simple msg about Permaculture as a quiet disrupter, an action for peace and an opportunity to smile. ” Statement from Artist #5
Design 6 – Permaculture. Do you dig it?
“This image is my parody of a very famous WWII propaganda poster for the ‘victory gardens campaign and the original poster was a sepia photo of a foot on the spade with ‘Dig for Victory’ as the slogan. My aim to to use humour to inspire interest in permaculture while recalling the urgency of that wartime call to inspire people to grow their own food“, Statement from Artist #6
