Reposting a post by Steve Batley, landscape architect, hortcultural and permaculture educator — from Sydney Organic Gardens... Love what the community gardeners are doing with the rain garden at The Coal Loader!! Strawberries in the gutters, Knobby Club Rush in the reed bed, veggies & herbs & flowers in the vertical gardens and edible aquatics in the pond. It\'s a system that collects and reuses rainwater to grow food in a small space - just 60cm or 2 ft wide against a building. 19243302_973337119436304_883414186716287513_o

30 years later… The permaculture open day at Djanbung Gardens here in Nimbin is drawing to a close as the rain which we have had for most of the day continues. A surprising number of people attended despite the grey skies, demonstrating that permaculture folk are not easily intimidated by the whims of the weather. People are attending from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Pacific Palms, Sydney and Victoria. In the photo, in Djanbung’s earth construction building, Guy Stewart, an enterprising local involved in Rainbow Power Company and other ventures leads a workshop on the importance of permaculture’s invisible systems or soft systems, the legal and organisational structures that make permaculture possible. Tonight we celebrate Permaculture Australia’ 30th year of good work. Tomorrow the annual meeting of the organisation and election of a new board of directors. @wholistic 18423706_10212650093715580_5892081167566903714_n18446788_10212650093755581_6863142350775979305_n
