Take a step into understanding permaculture by joining us at our 11-acre permaculture demonstration site for 2 days for an Introduction to Permaculture course.
This course, an overview of permaculture, will explain and explore how to create abundance, resilience and practical sustainability in your life no matter what your situation. Following the course, you will find that the permaculture principles which you will have a solid grounding in will be used to inform you choices no matter what your situation; rural property, city dweller, or anywhere in between.
Over the weekend, you will gain new knowledge and skills, increased confidence and inspiration to use in your garden, your home, your life. Located on a working permaculture farm, this introductory course will expose you to the principles and systems used in permaculture, focusing on practical implementation of permaculture by teachers who is living permaculture every day, not just teaching it, as well as the theory behind permaculture.
John Champagne has been one of Australia's principal permaculture teachers for over 15 years with more than 25 years’ experience of active involvement in the permaculture movement in Australia and Asia. John is a permaculture elder, a leading permaculture designer, consultant and educator who has worked in SE Australia, Asia and India. He has worked on projects from school food gardens, eco-villages, community supported agriculture and bioregional change and adaption and is recognised in the permaculture movement for his skills and knowledge.
Sharon Champagne is an educator and a food grower. She has assisted on courses in Indonesia and India and has input into the design of all courses. Her vegetable garden and the fruit in the orchards provides a significant part of the family’s diet and she will work with John to demonstrate permaculture in action.
The standard course fee of $300 pp includes a camping site (bring all your own gear!), light meal on Friday night (for those setting up then) breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner on Saturday, breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on Sunday.
If you don’t have your own tent and want to share our 4mtr glamping tent ( 6 people on single mattresses) , you can bring your own mattress and sleeping bag. The cost to use the tent will be $340 pp. This includes shared (dormitory style) tent (BYO Mattress and sleeping bag) light meal on Friday night (for those setting up then) breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner on Saturday, breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on Sunday.
We have a few spots in the house for $370 pp. Each room (3 available) has a double/queen size bed, linen and a doona/blankets. The house is open plan with the upper bedrooms being open (sound wise) to the rest of the house so please take this into consideration. This price includes light meal on Friday night (for those arriving then) breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner on Saturday, breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on Sunday.
Onsite campers will have access to ‘primitive camping’ composting toilet and washing area at their camping area.
Those staying in the house will have access to a composting toilet and bathroom.
The venue is Brogo Permaculture Gardens in the Bega Valley, South Coast NSW. It is easily reached via the Princess Highway from Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong and Canberra. It is serviced by V-Line (into Bega-pick up can be arranged), Premier Bus ( from Sydney and pick up points on the Princess Highway-drops off at Brogo ) and CountryLink from Canberra ( into Bega-pick up can be arranged) – please note services are limited for all bus lines. If you require a pick up do notify us well in advance.

Brogo Permaculture Gardens Refunds Policy
We appreciate that there can be legitimate reasons for plans changing and you may not be able to attend the course.
If you notify us at least 14 days prior to the commencement of the course, your options are:
- a refund of your course fee, less an administration fee of $50 or
- a credit of the full amount towards any future course organised by Brogo Permaculture Gardens
Refunds + credits are not available within 14 days of a course’s commencement.
- The course is Saturday and Sunday. If you plan to arrive Friday night a light dinner will be provided. It is expected that all participants will assist with evening cooking and clearing/cleaning after meals.
- We are an organically certified and palm oil free property and it would be appreciated if any products that will end up in the grey water or on the land are organic and palm oil free.
- No dogs or other animals can be brought on to the property.
- Wifi is available at the house area, mobile phone range depends on the provider. A home phone is available for emergencies.
